Creating a better education for the creative mind
In the Ted Talk “Do schools kill creativity?” by Sir Ken Robinson talks about the way the education system is set up. In his talk he brings up how the education system emphasizes compliance and standardization over being a creative and unique individual. He brings up that each child is unique and has tremendous talent and that we just waste that talent. The thought he has on this matter is that creativity now is just as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it as if it had the same amount of importance. Robinson believes that schools need to provide opportunities for students to pursue their passions and develop their …show more content…

He thinks that creativity now is more important than ever. Robinson tells us that the whole idea around the educational system was to meet the needs of industrialism. Seeing that we are no longer in the industrial age, Robinson feels that the educational system is outdated and needs to be reevaluated. The reason behind this is because the educational system focuses too much on academic subjects and standardized tests. Since this is the case, children can often lead children to feel discouraged in their passions, leading them too not be as creative. Medium is the way the author (in this case Robinson) tries to get the information across to us. The way Robinson does that in this Ted Talk is through a talk. Since he can talk, he uses different mediums with it. The first medium he uses is storytelling. He tells us a story about a dance choreographer who was diagnosed with a learning disorder at first. The reason Robinson does this is to show how the education system fails to recognize there are other types of intelligence. The next medium he uses is humor. Since it is a talk, he can express himself in ways that you couldn’t if it were just a text or article. Since he uses humor so well it makes his points more memorable and meaningful. It also is a great way to make sure that the mood doesn’t get too gloomy and serious. The final form of medium I found was the use of tone. He was really good at using tone to his advantage. Since he was so great at it he could keep the audience engaged the whole time he was talking. He would use pauses and emphasize words in order to make the audience not relax and be bored. Robinson was really great at using mediums throughout his whole
