The oration “The Atlanta Compromise” from Booker T. Washington was to have the White citizens realize that Blacks are no different from Whites, other than the skin color. Blacks perform as much strenuous activities as Whites do, maybe even more, but why do the Whites get so bothered with Blacks being equal? Whites were sufficed with slaves being and treated lower than them. Also, some did not allow Blacks to be equal to them as well as not cater them, even though slavery has ended, to proclaim their partiality. Booker T. Washington says, “In Fall 1872, when I was sixteen, I decided to go to Hampton” – Page 25. Washington makes the decision to get further an education. On the way to Hampton, he and White members stop at a hotel. “Without even asking whether I had any money, the man at the desk firmly refused to consider giving me food or lodging.” – Page 27. Whites were so used to Blacks not coming up in society, that they felt uncomfortable when they did. By getting an education, working for themselves, and succeeding as Whites do. Whites have forgotten all about the Blacks devotion. Since their beliefs against Blacks were still strong, it was easy to disremember everything Blacks had done for their societies.
