Recently I read “The Future of Travel In a Mixed Reality World” by Dax Hamman, in which the author talks about the influence of evolving virtual reality technology’s potential influence on travel. The essay starts with the author wanting the reader to imagine a scene in a hotel where futuristic technology helps you, the customer, check into a Hilton hotel. With hovering luggage and walls that change to your choice, the author paints a picture of what the world could/would look like if augmented reality and partial augmented reality technologies were integrated. The essay revolves around the narrative that the author puts forth about the effects of AR on hotel rooms and other amenities “You reach for a beer from the minibar and space zips away into a little bouncing icon on the desk …show more content…
The second scenario the author uses is the idea of a father being away from his children on a business trip and using AR technology to have dinner with his children, “It’s been a long day and back in your room a notification appears to invite you to dinner time at home. Space disappears as you sit at the universal table in your hotel room and your kitchen appears, your kids fighting to sit next to you at their universal table.” (Hamman paragraph 8). Although it helps the reader get a better grasp on the usage of this technology, I was kind of disappointed that the author didn’t include any sort of real examples in his essay. After all VR technology has already been integrated into our general forms of media.
