Rose’s Run by Dawn Dumont is an excellent book that is about a character named Rose Okanese who has to tackle many life problems after her husband cheats on her as well as leaves her and her two daughters. This book takes place in a reserve located in Saskatchewan in modern day Canada. The author did a fantastic job at describing every little detail in the scenes which really helps the reader imagine what was in the setting. One good example of a description is “Rose stood on her front steps looking at the moody sky. Nightfall was coming on and she was dreading it....
The main character in “The Freak Series” by Carol Matas is Jade, who is fifteen years old and has recently discovered that she is a psychic. Through the series, Jade is haunted by visions and dreams of bombings in her local synagogue, innocent women murdered with their own scarves, and a small room with someone screaming. Jade tries to solve these mysteries for the her own good and the people she loves. She solves these problems with her exceptional traits such as having a quick reaction and a strong conscience. Jade has a quick reaction.
In her book, From Out of the Shadows, Viki L. Ruiz argues the contributions to history that was made by farm workers, activists, leaders, volunteers, feminists, flappers, and Mexican women. She explores the lives of the innovative and brave immigrant women, their goals and choices they make, and how they helped develop the Latino American community. While their stories were kept in the shadows, Ruiz used documented investigations and interviews to expose the accounts of these ‘invisible’ women, the communities they created, and the struggles they faced in hostile environments. The narrative and heartfelt approach used by Ruiz give the reader the evidence to understand as well as the details to identify or empathize with.
There are many different themes exemplified by Ellen Raskin throughout The Westing Game novel. An important theme in the novel is relationships. All of the heirs have different relationships with one another, but Turtle and Sandy's relationship was consistent until the end of the novel. They first met on page 7, where Sandy tells Turtle, Doug, and Theo a story about Sam Westing. Sandy and Turtle never connected then, but later in the novel they have the strongest relationship out of all the heirs.

The Investigation is a dramatic documentary of the Frankfurt War Crimes trials during the 1960s based on actual evidence from the trial. Weiss strips the trial down to its most essential features and converts it into a powerful play. It consists of extracted testimonies from numerous witnesses and defendants, including moments of examinations and cross-examinations conducted by the prosecutors and defense counsel. The nine unnamed witnesses represent the millions of individuals affected by the Holocaust. They were brought forth to testify to the barbarity of Auschwitz.
The Unexplained Apparition Although apparitions have become a popular topic among society, there is no way to sci-entifically prove that these ghost encounters are real based on personal accounts alone. In “Army Apparitions,” Alan Moore fails to prove the existence of ghosts by his insufficient amount of sci-entific evidence and reliable sources. Without scientific evidence the reader has to examine the retailing of a story or tale without knowing if it is credible. “Lost hearts” by M.R. James is a ghost story about an orphan named Stephen who go goes to live with his older cousin Mr.Abney. He offered him shelter but his intentions were not so good. He had already killed a little girl and a boy and was planning to kill him too by taking his heart out. Throughout the passage M.R. James uses diction and imagery to create tones that are appropriate for a ghost story. M.R. James uses words and images to create a mysterious tone at the beginning of the passage.
Susie had a warm and close relationship with Buckley. He is about four when Susie is killed yet he believes in Susie's ghostly ability to communicate with the living, and he sees her several times. The very kind of story that Mark Twain’s tale, A Ghost Story, mocks. A Ghost Story is a short story about a man who buys a room that had been uninhabited for many years. On the first night of his stay he finds mysterious happenings are afoot as the place is haunted by a ghost, in particular, the ghost of the Cardiff Giant.
The “Black-Eyed Women” The short story “Black-Eyed Women” is within the book The Refugees, written by Viet Thanh Nguyen. The characters throughout the short story share similar qualities as the undead. This being said, the 38-year-old Vietnamese refugee is the narrator of the short story who works as a ghostwriter; who has lived in silence with her mother for a good amount of time. The idea of a ghost’s embodiment is proven through the ultimate struggle one may face during catastrophic periods.
The book, Ghost, by Jason Reynolds is a story about a boy named Castle, but is called Ghost. Castle has a very rough life because his father is imprisoned and his mother struggles with finances. Castle is a misbehaved kid who struggles in school and makes a track team which motivates him to be good in school. Track played ended up playing a huge role in his life and went through the ups and downs with him. Track taught him respect and discipline which spread throughout his home.
The short story, “Haunting Olivia,” by Karen Russell, portrays two boys looking for their sister, Olivia, who died at sea. The boys stay with their grandmother on an island for the summer, and each night they sneak away to a boat graveyard to search for the girl. Guilt and grief consume the narrator, Timothy, and his brother, Wallow, as they search for a way to rescue their dead sister. Tim holds onto the idea that Olivia can continue to exist as a spirit. The narrator uses echo to create the effect of Olivia’s ghost.
