The True Horror of Frankenstein
What truly makes any novel scary, how do simple pieces of paper bound together have the power to induce terrifying nightmares? Mary Shelley the author of Frankenstein, a novel that not only provides suspense and mystery, but, shows the nature of humans when we are faced with something unfamiliar, throughout the book we are faced with the truth of humanity and how the actions of people shape our future like wet clay.
The book is not named after the "monster" but after the scientist whom created him, the monster like a baby came into the world with no knowledge of the harsh realities that surrounded him. Who is truly the monster in this novel, the creation that did not pick his abnormal features nor asked to come into this world, perhaps we can lay blame on the people Victor, the irresponsible scientist whom released his creation into the harsh, judgmental world knowing the full consequences and dangers he would face. These qualities are what separate us from wild animals, but when faced with a new creature the characters in this novel become untamed and primitive. The monster did not start of as dark, rather he was never given the option to be good, he was denied that right time and time again; he spent time learning the language and habits of humans, he was denied, the monster went as far as saving a drowning girl shortly after being attacked by the De Lacy family, in return for his brave act he was shot in the shoulder.
