Steve James graduated from Southern Illinois college; he lost contact with Stevie, ten years later he went back to Pomona, Illinois to search for Stevie. Steve decided to make a documentary about what is happening with Stevie and what ever happen to the little boy he once knew. Steve was his sponsor in the Big Brothers program; he recognized that Stevie was always a “troubled” youth. Stevie mother, Bernice father was an alcoholic and abused his children while they lived in the “back hills of West Virginia” (S James, 2002). He suffers from anger management issues and exhibits aggressive behavior towards his family members. He also gets into public fights and disorderly conduct when drinking alcohol. (S. James, 2002).
Summary/Conclusion
Stevie story is about a young child whose family seem to repeat pain, abuse, which continues throughout the family existence. Being abused from Bernice, and being rejected by his mother. He was put into the state’s foster care system that failed to protect him, becoming a victim of sexual abuse, and sent to multiple foster homes, until there was none left for him to reside. In return Stevie, sexually abused his step-sister, and now his eight-year old cousin daughter. Charges have been filed against Stevie; now what happens to him? Stevie hired an attorney to defend his case; the attorney advises Stevie to accept the criminal charge and go to prison. He chooses to go to a trial for the case. He is not displaying any remorse and remaining very closed mouth about the case. Stevie refuses any counseling for his sexual offense. Stephen Fielding scheduled for parole on February 15, 2007.
