In the story Noah count and the Arkansas ark by Gary Blackwood, the author demonstrates how the family in the text are poorly educated and how the boy thinks of his family. The boy in the story learned the lesson that even though his family members aren’t educated the way he is, doesn’t mean they aren’t smart. The boy’s views of his family change as the story develops. When the story begins, the boy thinks that his family isn’t very scientific. In the middle of the story, he Is embarrassed by them.
The book NightJohn, by Gary Paulsen, proves that education is important and should be valued. The book is about slavery; Sarny, a 13 year old slave, is living on a plantation when another slave, John, was bought. John really values education, so he teaches Sarny how to read and write; this is proven when John said to Sarny: “It means A—just like I said. it's the first letter in the alphabet” (Paulsen 38). John wants to teach Sarny how to read because John values education, and he wants the slaves to be able to share their story when they get out.
In this modern world, do you feel that there are other kinds of education? In the short story "Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark" by Gary Blackwood, the narrator's point of view regarding his family's lack of education changes throughout the story. The narrator underestimates and feels ashamed of his family's education, accurately in their manner of speech and expression. Throughout the entire text, the narrator uses his family's lack of education as an example of the value of education. To begin with, the narrators' family speech and beliefs demonstrate the authors lack of education.
Noah’s Ark is an oil on masonite painting done by Aaron Douglas in 1927. The 48 by 36 inches painting is currently on display at The Carl Van Techten Gallery of Fine Arts at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. The representational portrait painting shows an outdoors scene. There is a source of light coming from the top right corner. Following down the painting, there is a man at the front of a large boat, pointing to the left.
In the passage “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark,” written by Gary Blackwood, the author demonstrates the significance of education through the lives of the narrator and his family. As the storyline changes his view of their education changes. In the beginning, he feels more educated, which changes to him feeling really embarrassed, but at the end, he finally gets a great understanding of his family education. At the beginning of the text, it shows how he thinks that because he has been in school for a while he knows just about everything. In paragraph 7, it states “I’d been going to school for a while, you see, and thought I knew just about everything”.
The first time one is able to comprehend the meaning of a word is a momentous childhood moment that is forever engraved in one’s memory. Books and reading are significantly impactful to people’s lives; Mark Twain said that, “books are for people who wish they were somewhere else.” This statement is apropo for Sherman Alexie, who was a Native American living on a reservation during the time he learned to read. Sherman Alexie convinces his audience that an education is crucial to being successful by using personal anecdotes to captivate and create a connection with his audience and repetition to reiterate the importance of having an education. Alexie's use of personal anecdotes fortifies the impact he has on his audience.
During this chapter, Noah tells a story about his dog Fufi. Young Noah was absolutely heartbroken when he found out that his dog had another family that she secretly visited during the day. Both Noah’s family and the other family thought that the dog was their own, and both refused to accept that she actually had two families. The intense feeling of betrayal after this occurrence is communicated through this anecdote: “I sobbed the entire way home, still heartbroken” (100). Even though he was hurt, Noah also learned a lot from his first heartbreak.

Flood Essay Introduction Killing an estimated 1,833 people, Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the United States. The flooding alone caused massive devastation and destruction. Millions of people lost their homes and all their possessions. This flood was horrific, but imagine a flood so great that it destroyed all of humanity. This great flood occurs in the stories of Noah, Utnapishtim, and Deucalion.
What a powerful video and exemplary example of a person who was determined to break the horrific cycle of hopelessness and despair that defined his childhood and create a better story for both his own children and the struggling town in which he lived. To me, Noah’s life and the video somewhat resembled the Six Acts of the Bible- his birth as an innocent baby, the chaotic, tragic childhood he experienced, his spiritual “calling” through the inciting incident, God’s redemption in his life which consequently allowed him to become a responsible father and working through God to restore his community, and finally, continuing to be God’s servant, anticipating His return to earth. Fortunately, I have not been faced with the monstrous circumstances
After he learned to read and write, he expressed, “From that moment, I understood the pathway from slavery to freedom” (Douglass 32). This is one way that literacy and education is the most essential trait to the American Dream as it provides freedom. Another example of the importance of education for future success is portrayed in the video, Two American Families. In this video, the Stanley Family does everything possible to be able to afford sending their oldest son, Keith, to college. The parents express the value and importance of having an education, to set up the future for success and strong careers (Public Broadcasting Service.).
In “The Story of the Flood” in the Epic of Gilgamesh and “Noah’s Ark”, both Noah and Utnapishtim were warned of a great flood that would destroy the world and all of man kind. Then told them to save themselves and all living things (those that they could) by building a boat. The ancient Sumerian tale is considered the first story to write about a great flood which compares almost identically to the story of Noah. The biggest difference between the Mesopotamians and Hebrews, is that Mesopotamians believe in multiple Gods and Goddesses where as the Hebrews invest power and authority into only one God. Mesopotamians believed that their world was controlled by hundreds of Gods and Goddesses who were responsible for everything that happened in it.
The overarching symbolism of Noah’s Ark is that of Baptism. Noah, the covenant mediator, is both a new Adam and type of Christ to come. It is his keeping of the covenant that brings his family back into relationship with God although still not completely. The New and Final Covenant will be ushered in with God himself as mediator through the sacrifice of the Divine Son.
