I read the book called “The Wednesday Wars” by Gary D.Schmidt and it is a Newbery honor book and a Printz Honor Book. The book is about a seventh grader named Holling Hoodhood. He has an older sibling who’s his sister who is a flower child, a mom who smokes but doesn't like people knowing and a dad who is the architect for Hoodhood and Associates. Holling is hated by his teacher, Mrs.Baker. The teacher hates Holling because on Wednesdays, everyone in the class either goes to Hebrew school or Catechism and so the teacher has to spend the afternoon with him and him only. Mrs. Baker makes Holling wash the board,then wash it again, take the chalk outside and get the dust out of it and go clean this and that. Some examples are taking gum off the desks and cleaning the chalkboard. Sometimes if he was quick, he would get cream puffs. The class, especially Danny and Meryl, hated Holling for getting cream puffs and gave him threats that if he didn't get the whole class cream puffs,they will hurt him. With his allowance and by making a deal with Mr.Goldman, he was able to get cream puffs for the class. The deal with Mr. Goldman was that he would pay the rest of the expenses, if Holling would play as ariel in the play. Mrs.Baker said they couldn't eat the cream puffs until after recess was over, but when recess was over, rats finished the food. The class got so mad at Holling and said he had to buy the class enough again by Wednesday next week. The following week later on Wednesday, Holling only has five cream puffs for the class, but Mrs. Baker saved his butt by buying the class cream puffs. A couple days after that, it was starting to be time for the play and in class Mrs.Baker announced that if the class goes to the play, they would get extra
