In works of literature, a character often takes part in a great battle. In the novel Uprising by Margaret Peterson, Bella has to go through many challenges and obstacles to take care of her family in Italy and herself. Bella was an Italian immigrant that decided to go to NYC and worked in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Bella’s intention was to go to NYC, work, and be efficient . As soon as she gets to NYC her cousin Pietro, finds her a job at the top of a ten-story building, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Where she began cutting hanging threads from shirtwaist. Bella was a fast and devoted learner, in page 44 Bella snipped threads and imagined it was a grain of wheat dropping into a bucket that her mother would be holding. She was a dedicated worker for her family to help them survive. Bella had an inhumane experience working in the Shirtwaist Factory. She was extremely tolerant for the sake of her family for example, a lot of tolerance was shown from her when Signor Carlotti yelled at her “ You idiot girl!” when she missed a thread. Secondly, Bella had money taken out of her salary when she was learning how to sow. It was very inconsiderate of Signor Carlotti, reason being it was her first time.
