Surrey Neighbourhoods

Throughout Surrey every neighbourhood has a different sense of place which is well defined through its community centres, green spaces, houses etc. and thus making each neighbourhood a vital part of a truly livable, modern city.
There are six main neighbourhoods in Surrey (Fig 1):
1. North Surrey/Whalley
2. Guildford
3. Fleetwood
4. Newton
5. Cloverdale
6. South Surrey

North Surrey/Whalley

Whalley is the most densely populated urban area out of the Surrey’s six town centres.
It is the only neighbourhood currently serviced by tracked rapid transit.
Surrey City Centre located in the heart of North Surrey, visualized as the region’s second downtown.

These communities have enclosed recreational centres called Fraser heights recreational centre and 2 regional parks offering walking trails, picnic and dog off leash spots and even a non-motorized boating access to Fraser River.

Fleetwood

Rapid population growth contributes to the retail, commercial and multi-family residential developments and even the residents turned down attempts to develop light industrial properties.
Fleetwood neighbourhood gives a sense of openness and community involvement (Fig 4) which in turns a plus for the growth of this neighbourhood.

Newton

Newton also includes the Historic Village of Sullivan, The Sullivan Community Hall, preserves an important part of Newton’s heritage.
Newton Neighbourhood gives sense ethnical diversity with integrity and plays as a host to one of the largest Vaisakhi Parades which normally attracts between 80,000 and 200,000 people.
