Summary: The Decline Of Homelessness

According to the 2013 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress, 610,042 people were homeless on a given night. About 387,845 of these people were individuals without a home. Nearly one quarter of all homeless people were children under the age of 18. These numbers are staggering. However, these numbers are actually an improvement from previous years.

Homelessness declined by nearly 4 percent between 2012 and 2013, and by 9 percent since 2007. Between 2007 and 2013, unsheltered homelessness declined by 23 percent and by 7 percent from 2012 to 2013 alone. This information shows that not only is homelessness declining, but unsheltered homelessness as well. This is due to the rising of helpful corporations such as Care Corpse.

My group and I met with a young man by the name of Josh. Josh is currently 27 years old and went to Logan View High School in Nebraska. Young Josh had been at the shelter for 3 weeks he told us. We asked why he chose Care Corpse and he told us that his mother used to be the director of the facility. After getting some background on him, we asked how he ended up at Care Corpse. He replied telling us he used to be in the military until he had a “falling out”. Then, someone asked him if he currently had a job and he replied stating that Care Corpse helped him get a job at Syngenta Grain in Waterloo. After that, he also added that care Corpse is helping him try to get back into the military. We ended by asking Josh if there were any rules that he didn 't agree with. He quickly replied stating that he doesn 't agree with the policy of not sharing
