In one of The New York Times’ most recent articles “For Giants, 2 Wins and 2 Pink Slips” Bill Pennington supports the recent dismissal of two highly paid personnel of the New York Giants organization. Pennington justifies the organization's decision by explaining that the two men fired, head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese, were both inexperienced and did a very poor job recruiting as well as communicating within their organization. He also notes specifics such as the Giants’ historically terrible record, minimal amount playoff berths, and the recent benching of their star quarterback Eli Manning as proof of the two’s work being unpleasing. In addition, Pennington quotes specifically from Giants’ team president, John Mara, throughout the article which gives insight on how the Giants’ ownership made the final decision.
Prologue The book Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America, contains specific days and events that have not been actually considered a “big deal”, but has significantly contributed to the present situation in America. It explores themes such as; National Identity, American Democracy, American Creed, and Democratic Revolution. It also sheds light on the ideology of being born equal, or being made equal. It places emphasizes on the fact that history is often a result of a great impersonal forces and that change can be extremely slow.
Henos Yonas 1ST period 10 Days that changed the world is an exceptional book that brings to light various events in history that have affected the outcome of this great nation as a whole and also the world in itself. I will be introducing chapters 2, 3 and 4 and letting people know how they impacted my view on America. I chose chapter two because Shays Rebellion, one of the events that you can’t leave out, brought light to an inevitable fact that the Articles of the Confederation did not work and could not sustain us as people. I chose chapter three because the Gold Rush, it led to very unlikely things. People of every race, creed and color lived together for one common purpose one that was not promised but hoped for, gold.
When the public decides to choose a side the court generally tends to side the public opinion more than strictly paying heed to the Constitution. An instance of when this happened was when Gay Marriage Rights were established on April 28, 2015. Many organizations were founded to help raise awareness and gain gay marriage rights. Even today there are many organizations that exist for LGBTQ. One such organization that is well known amongst the youth today is the Gay-Straight Alliance.

Gillon, emphasized that major events, such as the American Revolution, was very important, but the lesser known events that lead up to them were also important. Equality and same-sex marriage is similar to that of The Crucible. The thought of a same-sex marriage happening within the holy walls of God, is a sin, in the eyes of the church. Many churches have banned the ceremony of gay/lesbian marriages. The churches that disallow same-sex marriages are Baptists, Methodist, Catholic and Presbyterian churches. This selective behaviour from those particular churches, have caused hysteria from supporters of equality, especially the LGBTQ+ community.

Bennett, a prominent cultural conservative, former secretary of education, and author of The Book of Virtues, focuses on societal effects in his op-ed article, “Against Gay Marriage.” Though Bennett’s piece conveys partiality, it also attempts to discuss this issue scrupulously to ensure readers will consider his argument and perhaps accept his implications. Throughout the year we have studied many different events that have occurred in our country's history. On October 29, 1929 we had the worst stock market crash that lead to the great depression resulting in ten years of unemployment and struggle for the United States. Another horrific event in our country’s history was the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki after Japan would not surrender to the allies and killed around 120,000 people. The Civil Rights movement was a long hard battle against customs, discrimination, and police brutality. Why do people have a problem with gay marriage? It is not all people who have a problem with gay marriage, but there are those who believe that gay marriage is an abomination and goes against God. Others however, believe that people are just people, and it does not matter if you are gay or not. Charles Colson believes that gay marriage is the end of the tradition of marriage; especially if gay couples are able to adopt children. Katha Pollitt however, believes that it does not matter if a couple is gay, straight, or elderly; as long as they are happy together and love one another.
In Frederick Douglass’s The Meaning of Fourth of July for the Negro, he exposes the hypocrisy and iniquity that is infused into considerably one of the most prolific American moments in history known as The Fourth of July. Douglass, who was a former slave that eventually reached freedom, was invited to speak about what Fourth of July meant for the black population within America. Although Douglass provided much gratitude to the Founding Fathers for their courage and ability to oppose oppressive systems, he criticizes the American country for its involvement within slavery. Slavery served as the foundation that constructed America, allowing for it fuel the economy and develop into a cultural and political norm within society.
In 2015, the Obergefell v. Hodges case ended the “state bans on same-sex marriage”, therefore legalizing same-sex marriage (Important Supreme Court Cases). Now, “same-sex couples can now receive the benefits...of marriage that were largely exclusive to heterosexual couples” (Koch). The ruling has led to the modern fight for gay civil rights. Exposure to the LGBTQ+ community, the southern “Bathroom Bills”, and other fights for transgender rights, and the press for more LGBTQ+ representation in the media has erupted from this case. Both rulings had very big impacts on their respective communities.
