The subject of the article of Sheila Slaughter and Gary Rhoades about “The Social Construction of Copyright Ethics and Values” is to review the literature on the copyright policies of the interviewed professors in the three universities including intellectual property with regards to copyright, patent, and ownership. Copyright is a form of “legal protection” of the content provided by the authors/creators/writers in their work through assigning the right to legally copy the ideas in their journals, articles or other forms of research/instructional materials. It has been an issue to some instructors, who used articles, journal, etc., that materials used for research/education should be ensured as copyrighted before publication to acknowledge ownership. In regards to patent, research/instructional materials has been widely used in commercializing and marketing in other institutions to earn money out of it.

In the article, what I’ve noticed was that the author focused on identifying different perspective or views about copyright through an interview of different universities. Her methods and/or ways of spreading knowledge to the readers were thorough, which she was able to provide findings about the certain topic. She also clearly states some issue or policies about intellectual property which covers copyright, patent and ownership as well as copyright ethics and values. Her intent was to combine the findings that had been gathered into a single article that could be helpful for students, instructors, or even to researchers. It could also be used for future research and reference. Slaughter found out that the three universities that were interviewed has different values of handling copyright
