Commercials. We all hate them. Television these days have more commercials than the actual show we are watching. But there is one day of the year that people look forward to commercials. It’s the day that the Super Bowl is on. Millions of people get together and have parties, gather around the television and see who is going to win the title. During halftime many commercials are played, many of them are hilarious and people talk about them for the next week. One commercial stood out to me in particular. There is emotion because when Helen Mirren is talking what she says is funny. An example of what she says is “If you drive drunk, you simply put, are a short-sighted, utterly useless, oxygen-wasting, human form of pollution, a Darwin-award deserving, selfish coward. If your brain was donated to science; science would return it.” When hearing this most likely all the viewers found some part if not all of what she said funny.
Throughout the commercial there is a chance that the rhetorical appeals may not work, but in this case it seems that they do work. The rhetorical appeals work because there seems to be just the right amount of content in the appeals to get it across.
With watching the commercial there may have been some viewers that where not persuaded by the commercial. This may be because they are not drinkers of beer or they do not want to change there ways of drinking and driving. A suggestion that could be given to make it more persuasive could be to put words on the screen at say do not drink and drive.
To sum up, although this commercial is persuasive because of ethos, logos, pathos, etcetera, it actually does more than that. It actually controls by making us hate against drinking and driving. Drinking and driving is dangerous. It should not be done. There are many precautions one can take if they have been drinking. Just do not do it. It will wave many from
