“The Physics of Superheroes”, an essay written by James Kakalios, discusses the basic laws of physics and its relation to superheroes. Instead of focusing on the impracticability of superheroes’ abilities, Kakalios pursues a different route: using examples of superhuman abilities to explain the complex laws of physics. He specifically uses the example of miniaturization and its connection to atoms. Kakalios begins his essay by exploring the background of Dr. Henry Pym and how he became to be known as Ant-Man. Kakalios explains that superhuman abilities have been the craze in science-fiction movies and comic books for at least fifty years.
Indiana Jones is an archaeologist who seeks the Holy Grail. He will do anything to obtain the prize possession. When he captures the Holy Grail, he comes across several obstacles. Some people cheer superheroes while the law hunts others as criminals, but both kinds of heroes have the same goals: a better world. So, what makes them different? Superman, Flash, and Captain America are all viewed as great heroes who consistently save lives and there are those such as Batman, Green Arrow, or Daredevil. This latter group is often considered by law enforcement as a threat as bad as the evildoers the heroes battle. Why is this? The answer is rather simple and is found in two concepts: proactive and reactive.
Gifted with incredible endurance and super strength, the ability of flight, and an impeccable moral compass, Superman is the quintessential superhero that Americans of all ages have admired and looked up to since his conception in 1938. In Brad Bird’s 1999 feature animation The Iron Giant, the fifty-foot metal protagonist is no exception. Hiding out in a barn, he peers at an issue of the Superman comic book like an amused child with his eyes wide and mouth agape. His closest human companion, nine-year old Hogarth, sits before the giant and explains to him, “Sure, he’s famous now, but he started off just like you! Crash landed on Earth…he only uses his powers for good, never for evil.”
Throughout life we are told to express our individuality and swim against the stream of the general population to put emphasis on the characteristics that make us, in short, individuals. Cherishing what makes an individual special and different is what establishes roots in creativity and self expression, however there is a forced false sense of comradery in today’s society that takes the form of involvement with the masses; peer pressure forces many people to fall into the mold of an average character. The Academy award winning film, “The Incredibles” displays the themes of expressing one’s true self and special qualities, and in contrast repression by society to fit a basic mold. These themes are elaborated on through the development of the main characters and expressed further through the supporting roles and their dialogue and endeavors.
With over seven billion people on the planet, it is challenging to believe that I am unique. Rather, it 'd be egotistical to claim that I, and I alone, have this one distinctive, singular something to contribute to the Michigan State community. That said, however, I do believe that I have qualities that would further enrich and diversify Michigan State 's campus life. To take from the famous quote from "The Incredibles," if everybody is special, then, effectively, no one is. The question of what would "add to the overall richness of campus" life becomes complicated, considering that.
When Superman was little he was just an alien that landed on earth, but now he is an icon of goodness to the world. He has inspired the world with his high moral values and has taught us many things about justice and life. He has persuaded countless people to continue working hard and giving everything they can despite of the odds. He is the most powerful person on earth and yet he is humble and honest, two great characteristics of a leader. Superman believes the only way to progress as a person is to accept new ideas, like voting him as president.

The Incredible Hulk is the definition of having a violent temper, but is The Hulk really a superhero? Bruce Banner was exposed by a mass radiation of gamma rays, and instead of killing him, he got something even worse. Every time Bruce gets angry, he turns into a giant green rage monster. “The Hulk himself is a creature of pure rage and knows no morals or reason, blindly seeking to destroy everything in his path. The Hulk is representative of how the anger inside us can lead us in directions we would never go even though we may see ourselves as good people” (Smashing).
