In today’s society, the hero of any movie is normally a white male or female. It is not in the norm to see a Hispanic, Asian, or Black person saving the world or being the main star of a movie. These main characters have different characteristics than the secondary character that happens to be of a different race. For example: In the movie “The Incredibles”, the lead actor is ‘Mr. Incredible’, who happens to be a white male that is incredibly fit and someone all the super heroes wish to be. A secondary character is ‘Frozone’, a black male that is not even close to the size or the importance of ‘Mr. Incredible’.
I hope to bring diversity to all who walk on the campus. My background has shaped me into the intelligent African American woman I am today. Without growing up in the “hood”, I may have not been able to find the best career that interested me. I also would not have been able over all the challenges thrown at me. Instead I remained determined and motivated so that I was able to achieve all of the goals set before me.
Nobody is the same, and nobody is perfect. Under those circumstances, people are
British cineaste Edgar Wright has one of those creative minds that you always expect a lot from. He traditionally delivers bold and nimble stories whose course of events suit tastes of both young and old generations. His filmography might not be so extensive, but includes a trio of mandatory flicks, in which he masterfully blended action and comedy genres, gaining deserved praise and a legion of followers around the world. They are “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”, two masterpieces, and also the extremely entertaining “The World’s End”. Only “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” didn't work for me, feeling like the weakest link.
The diversity that may be found all around the world and in our very community has always fascinated me. I am aware that it is a widely held belief that being a minority is considered a disadvantage in various aspects and I would disagree with this. Diversity and culture is a two-way street- as a community, whether that be society as a whole or simply a freshman class, we have the potential to be able to learn from each other. I believe that my status as an underrepresented minority has shaped me into the person I am today. Despite moving to the United States at a young age and being a first-generation college student , I am grateful for the privilege to be able to further my education at the University of Utah.
After graduating from MHS, the next challenge in my mission to ascend from my circumstances was to become the best student at The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). With consideration of my mother not graduating high school, it was imperative and self- driving that I reward her sacrifices by excelling in my academic career. Eager to outperform, consequently, I earned the Smeal Merit Diversity Scholarship for three consecutive years (Freshmen-Junior) at Penn State. This prestigious scholarship is only awarded to the top five minority business students at Penn State. In addition to my academic successes, I became very active on campus and served as a leader at the top of four different campus-organizations.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is based on the fantasy video gaming life of an immature young man forced to grow up into the adult world. The movie is presented with video game and cartoon elements which are used to contrast the real world with his immature fantasy life. The third-person narration and the use of non-diegetic inserts of cartoon and video game elements, allow the audience to more fully understand the theme of leaving the child like world for the real adult world. The narration also allows the film to distribute more information than through a first person narrative. The third-person narration allows the viewer to know the feelings, thoughts and history of the characters, and more fully understand their connection to the protagonist.
As a member of a working class community, my life has been a struggle between resources and opportunities available for me. Having sparse resources has lead me to the constant push of working towards the things I’ve achieved. Social identities have become a guidance for my future goals and abilities. Being working class Latina, raised in a Catholic family has created many barriers and pathways into the future I wish to hold. Furthermore, taking all the social identities I have grew into have become the bases for my educational goals and identity.
The Diversity University event was not what I expected it to be. In fact, I had no idea what it was about at all. I literally went around campus to see if anything exciting was going on. I was curious and I saw a promotion board outside of my residence hall. Immediately, I walked over to the Rayburn Student Center where the event was taking place.
College: An Unsuccessful Diversification Project In her article, “Why America is Self-Segregating,” Danah Boyd emphasizes the importance of diversity in our social connections and explains, as members of a nation, we are segregating ourselves. Through culture, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic background, fragmentation is occurring daily. Boyd realizes that diversity is hard, but believes it is a crucial part of a successful democracy. Boyd explains that while the original goal of social media may have been to connect people from different cultures and nations, its effects have been working in the opposite direction.

My interest in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. sparked when I met Sheila Hudson. At the time I had no idea that she was an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. What I saw in Shelia Hudson was a smart, accomplished, proficient women who completely shattered all of my preconceived expectations of what I thought a sorority girl was supposed to be like.
Passion , Ambition , Conscientious , Leadership ... I soon became all of that in one. Of course these skills aren't fully developed overnight , they all take time to build upon. Acceptance into this program will be a platform for me to showcase the skills that I now possess as well as enhance them. Which is why I strongly believe that I should be accepted into McKee High School's National Honors
Although this plan is great for the economy, some might argue that there are certain repercussions that should be taken into consideration. For example, by making community college free, the program would cost $60 billion in the course of 10 years in a cost-sharing program with the states (Butler 1). Although this sounds like it’s a substantial amount of money, it is manageable. In regards to the benefits of the proposal, this is a small price to pay. In the long run it is better for the economy.
To include everyone is shaped differently by their background, society, education, financial status, and own unique personalities. Therefore should not be generalized using stereotype that strips them of their individuality.
