Susan Brownell Anthony was born February 15,1820 in Adams, Massachusetts. She was born in a religious Quaker household, raised by Lucy Reed and Daniel Anthony. She was second out of seven children, her father Daniel Anthony was the owner of a cotton mill. She then moved on to be a teacher. She later on partnered with Elizabeth Cady Stanton who was also a women's rights activist. Susan and Elizabeth met in 1851, when she attended a anti slavery conference.
One of Susan B. Anthony's biggest accomplishments is her anti-slavery efforts aided the abolishment of slavery. On May 14,1863, Susan and Elizabeth Cady was the first women’s political organization in the U.S. In 1869 Susan was one of the founders of the National Woman suffrage Association also known as (NWSA). The association was formed to secure women’s enfranchisement through a federal constitutional amendment. Her trial for giving a vote brought national attention to the women's suffrage issue in 1871 when the NWSA adopted the strategy of asking women to vote. Susan along with 50 other women tried to vote, only 15 were able to convince the election inspector, on this day she was arrested in 1872. Susan B. Anthony was also the dominant figure of the AWSA organization from the year of its foundation to 1900.
