When I first started reading it, I thought that it was going to be really boring because it was about history. But as I got further along in the book, I realized that it was not just a typical history book. Michael Shaara had written the book in a way so that it was easy for us to experience the American Civil War with the soldiers on the field. The different sections of the book were written so that it was from each individual’s point of view, which I found quite interesting. Michael Shaara approached this book in a different manner and I think it really did the book some justice.
As a freshman in highschool, I had never heard of Jane Harper, or read any of her books before this. My English teacher challenged me to pick up a book and read it. Instantly, the cover caught my eye. The book looked like a very compelling novel, so I decided to read it. It just came out in September of 2016, so it is a very new book.
There are outlaws trying to kill everyone they come across, and a rancher trying to start a war with Chet by running his herd on Chet's land. Fans of the book liked that the book is not just simply a romance novel masquerading as a western novel. Fans love the way Richards blends romance, drama, history, and humor all into a nice package that keeps readers turning the pages long into the wee hours of the night. Plenty of entertainment and action; giving readers a taste of what it was like to live in those times out on the frontier.
The overall rating I would give the book is a 9 out of 10 because I adore suspense and there was and is overloaded with amazing descriptive
I really enjoyed the way this book was written, it was written in a way that Native Americans have been known to teach each other. They pass their knowledge down to their children through their stories. It was like sitting down with a grandparent and hearing their story of the war. I first picked this book up because the Navaho Indians were mentioned in my AP History class, but because of the time frame we had before the test was taken they were only briefly mentioned. This book grabbed my attention because of the topic and that the main characters point of view didn’t just start with the war it explained his background and why he is the type of person he became.
I went and read several other reviews on this story and the majority said that they loved this book. And another can be also added to that list, myself. I absolutely fell in love with this book. After getting a couple of chapters in, the story really started to pull me in. I would look at the clock and realize that I had been reading for over an hour when it felt like I had been reading for twenty minutes.
Applewhites Point of view The applewhite book was so much fun to read. I hope every one who read it enjoyed it. Throughout the book I noticed how the point of view switched from E.D. and Jake. In the story we saw both sides of it one with E.D. and one with Jake.
I appreciated the book on several levels. The writing flowed well, and the tone was engaging. I enjoyed learning about South Georgia history and the railroad boom that set the stage for this story to unfold. The historical photos were a nice feature. They added interest and context to the story.
