Metlakatla First Nation is quite open to businesses and has received award from B.C Achievement Foundation for Aboriginal Business by being involved in major business deals. They will engage in businesses, but not at the expense of stewardship of the land because they regard it as their responsibility to the territory. We must be careful not to violate their principles. First Nation people are sensitive to be called “Stakeholder”; a term we must avoid using at all times. Stakeholders are defined as parties who have an interest in the issue and should therefore be considered.
China and Japan’s housing industry has slowed down and that industry is a major consumer of lumber. As a result of this, two of Canada’s largest lumber exporters have slowed their purchases. How about the U.S? Yes, the US’s housing industry has also slowed down but it is now beginning to speed up. The main reason that the US has decreased their purchases is because they are now purchasing their lumber from other countries at lower prices, such as
Why is the federal government sentencing the rancher Steve and Dwight twice on an arson charges? The Hammond’s residing from Oregon, they owned a ranch near to a government property. On 2001 Steve and Dwight started a fire on a government property and burn approximately hundreds of acres. The Hammond’s were initially charges for their first offense.
The whole world is harvesting down 3.5 acres of forest every MINUTE. Canada requires companies to plant a tree for every cut, but you are not getting the same forest in return. Canada has 385 endangered species, the reason it that the best land won’t be converted to a protected area, it would be used for farming, forestry, and housing. But I will give Canada one thing they have recognised the risk we are doing to our environment. They considered, and accepted the carbon tax; They are thinking about putting a cap and trade system, which is a limit on the pollution that can be emitted.
There are many unexplained mysteries across the globe that scientists may never be able to solve, including that of the unique trees in a forest, often referred to as the "Crooked Forest," in Poland. The Crooked Forest is a group of bent pine trees located near Nowe Czarnowo in Poland, and many feel that it is one of the scariest places in Central Europe. The trees that make up the forest were planted in the 1930s, and 10 years later, they mysteriously bent. What is even more strange is that each of the trees is bent from the base at a 90 degree angle.
The first redwood conservation group to drive the movement was the Sempervirens Club in 1900, which fought to preserve redwood predominantly in San Jose and the rest of Southern California. Later, in 1918, the Save-the-Redwoods League was established and took charge of the redwood conservation movement in Northern California. From the very beginning, however, various women’s clubs and organizations both helped the Sempervirens Club and Save-the-Redwoods League as well as campaigned actively for the tree’s preservation. Both in San Jose and Humboldt County of Northern California, women were key in the success of the movement. Thanks to the various redwood conservation groups and their interactions with women’s conservation clubs and groups,
Our Interior Forest. Ian Frazier for his inner life compares it to be inside in a forest, since in it, many people often use it as an escape to the current reality that each one, e.g. a forest (spa, fishing, Park, Beach) that departs to the reality of day to day living. When the person escapes to the forest is to explore and internalize what are its purposes and goals to follow. Ian mentions that explore would be a more prominent idea than it is currently. At present our explorations seem to have less historical system since increasingly the experiences that arise are more materialistic than real feelings.
2. a. The effect would probably include less plants being able to survive since so little sunlight is making it through to Earth. Then the greenhouse gas effect would happen where the smoke would hold in the heat, causing the whole planet to warm-up. Short-term it would only effect the maple tree and the teenager because the maple tree would not be getting enough light (or would have to compete with others more) and so would soon die.
Many people know what wolves are and often assume they are fierce, carnivorous, beasts. Yes, they are carnivorous, but generally speaking, they are not savage beasts that kill everything in sight. They kill what they need for food to survive and often times are under fed, attacking when they feel threatened or their family is in danger. What most people do not know is that not all wolves are the same, and some are very unique and different from the rest. One of these unique species is found in British Columbia 's Great Bear Rainforest.
Deforestation has been a big problem in Canada for many years. Destruction of forests began somewhere around 1880’s specifically in British Columbia. It went all the way to 1990’s where 64,000 hectares were lost, however that quantity has decreased in 2012 to about 45,800 hectares. Today, Canada’s 348 million hectares of forest lands shows about 9% of the world’s forest cover, although account for 0.3% of global
Canada’s laws and determination to be the best in the world has given them the title as the leader in forest management. Being portrayed as an international leader for countries all over the world gives us responsibility to continue and set an example where the rest of the world can
As the world’s population has increased over the years, the demand for food and other agricultural goods has too. Meaning that new technologies needed to be developed in order to help speed up the production of agricultural goods. Although without proper consideration of different factors agricultural technologies can be very harmful. Agricultural practices in Canada such as factory farming are the result of need for increased efficiency, however this has detrimental effects on people, animals and the environment. Agricultural technologies in Canada are a result of a need for increased efficiency.
During the period of deforestation, loggers and cultivators clear forest lands and convert them into agricultural lands to meet the increasing demand for food and raw materials of the economically growing nation. Then, agricultural expansion eventually stops. There are two forms of forest recovery after agricultural expansion. One is referred to as the “economic development path” and the other is the “forest scarcity path” (Rudel et al, 2005). The “economic development path” take place when agricultural expansion stops and farm workers look for higher paying non-farm jobs.
As the years progressed and the ages evolved, the demand for minerals and ores increased. The high demand resulted in a faster process and worse environmental conditions, when mining. These mining strategies posed a threat towards Canada’s environment and created a challenge the country had to face. The strategies created “erosion, sinkholes, loss of biodiversity, contamination of soil, ground and surface water.” (nrcan.gr.ca/mining)
The cost of equipment, land, insurance, and all other capital is so high that it’s nearly impossible to get into the agriculture business without being rich or taking a hefty loan out of the bank. Those who do manage to start a farm face a struggling battle, many smaller farms with receipts less than $25,000 did not report enough farm income to cover their expenses in 2005 and the number of these cases have increased in most subsequent years. The amount of profit exists differently between all types of farming, and in fact, whether or not the farm becomes a million dollar farm depends on what they produce and if the year was good for them; a great example of a million dollar farm would be hog farming which only makes up 2.6% of all farms in Canada but yet 17.8% of those hog farms reported making over 1 million in gross farm receipts, field crops on the other hand, representing just over 30% of all the farms in Canada, only had 1.5% of them making over 1 million in gross farm receipts. It is known that the cost of farming is a big deterrent for people wishing to enter the industry, the number of farms in Canada continue to fall and yet nothing drastic is being done to support the would be farmers who represent the future of Canada’s farming
