Suzy and Leah The story “Suzy and Leah” by Jane Yolen, is about two young kids during WWII. This story has two different perspectives. Suzy is a refugee from Germany under Hitler’s command and Leah is a nice, friendly girl from the U.S. They both became friends in the end, but at the start they didn’t like each other at the start. In the story Leah and Suzy’s feelings changed from the time of meeting each other and eventually becoming friends. Suzy started out life in Germany and then came to America and became a refugee. On the other hand, Leah was the only person to care for these people, give them food, and being kind to them. Leah’s feelings changed when she read Suzy’s diary and learned about everything that was happening on the other side of the world. Suzy’s feelings changed when Leah let her read her book and give her things that she lost on the other side of the world to make her feel at home. There feelings changed because they both overcame the feeling of awkwardness from the beginning to the end. For example, Leah had stated, “She was just standing to one side, staring at me. It was so creepy.” Also Suzy had then explained, “I stared at the yellow-haired girl until she was forced to look down.” This is how their relationship changed and why it had changed. …show more content…
At the very beginning of the story, Leah and Suzy didn’t like each other very much or care for each other. But by the end of the story things changed and gave them both new perspectives on each other. Suzy had gone to the hospital for her appendix to be taken out and had nearly died in the process. Then Leah had the chance to read Suzy’s diary and take a look at what her life was like and what she thought.
