The story Swipe by Evan Angler is about a North America that is struggling to recover after famine and global war. Swipe follows the lives of three kids caught in the middle of a conflict they didn't even know existed. The main character is Logan. Another character is Erin. Together they try not to get marked. Some of the rules in this dystopian novel are that they have to have barcodes. Some of the obstacles the characters face are that he is scared of being followed and trying not to get marked. In the text, it states “even in school he worried about being followed” (Angel 29 ). This shows hes afraid to be followed. According to the story it says “The last thing Logan would want you to know about him was that he was afraid of the dark" (Angler 3). This explains why he's afraid of the dark. The narrator of the story also says “your stupid Logan told himself there's no danger in this, it's just a stupid walk home”(Angler 53). This also suggests how he's afraid: These all show that he has to be brave to face his fears. Another example is that sometimes you have to do things you don't like in order to survive. A quote that demonstrates this is “my dad is a spy” (Angler 36). This shows that Erin was surprised that her dad worked for the government. Even though she wasn’t happy, she understood that her dad’s job was important to their survival. Another example is when it says “four men arrived now to take Logan away” (Angler 268).
