The meeting with the goddess follows the road of trials in Campbell’s monomyth in which the hero/heroine experiences a love that holds significance to him/her and impacts the journey for the better. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dorian meets with the goddess Sybil Vane. The love he has for her deems strong and powerful, but it does not become the type of love that requires two people.
