Literature Overview By reading aloud and exposing students to cultural literacy, it allow students to gain new perspective from different cultures. This lesson requires five cultural diverse books that are central themed with the well-known Cinderella story. By examining these books, I hope that students will appreciate the cultures from Mexico, China, India, Persia, and Hmong. In addition, these books are fictional cultural diverse books that are fairy tales which will engage students to comprehend a story with a central theme, yet see how they can have different points on view influenced by culture, likewise these books mirror on comparisons and differences.
A few days before the ball, Cinderella meets a hunter(the Prince) in the forest. Her kindness and courage attract his attention. She marries to the Prince and gets a happy life not only because she is pretty but also because her way of life. Despite the way she is treated, she still has courageous to overcome hardships and maintains a sense of kindness. The characters that will be compared to each other in this essay will be Victor Frankenstein and Satan. They are comparable due to both of their desires to gain power in the likeness of God. Born in the eighteenth century, the German brothers worked well together and found interest developing new stories. The Grimm Brothers collected excerpts from other existing books and reworked them to fit their style of folk tales. The focus was to change the target audience of the stories from folklorists to middle-class families and children.
The story is about a young girl named Cinderella whose widowed father remarries but soon dies, leaving his daughter with the evil stepmother and her two daughters. The stepmother prefers her own daughters over Cinderella and has her perform all of the house chores. While Cinderella is kind, patient, and sweet, her stepsisters are cruel and selfish. Meanwhile, across the kingdom the King decides that his son the Prince should find a suitable bride and marry and so invites every eligible maiden in the kingdom to a fancy ball. Cinderella has no appropriate dress for the ball so her friends the mice namely Jaques and Gus, and the birds help her in making one, but the evil stepsisters tear apart the dress on the evening of the ball.

All three interpretations of Cinderella paints a picture of a materialistic world obsessed with wealth and status. Each variation, however, emphasizes different levels from the actions of an individual to the movement of an entire kingdom. In the Grimm Brothers version of this tale, the composition of the shoes change each day, ranging from “slippers embroidered with silk and silver”(Grimm 33) to slippers “of pure gold”(Grimm 46).
