In many ways, Harry Potter’s scar is symbolic of his power he obtains in the wizarding world, and his differences that make him unique. On an emotional level, his scar represents the love his mother devoted to him. On the night Voldemort attacked the Potters, Harry’s mom sacrificed herself for her son so that he could survive and live a fulfilling life. In this sense, Harry Potter’s scar already separates him from Voldemort, and helps him later defeat his foe, because Voldemort did not have the benefit loving parents (or friends).
