There is the cultural norms who are meant to set traditions which are defined to asking a lot of questions and who set up a certain pattern for themselves and their future generations. Then there is those that have a lot of honor towards their own culture. They demonstrate pride as well as respect and put family bonds before anyone or anything else. They set certain type of mindsets all the time and stay loyal basically they are considered the clannish groups of cultures. In Outliers, Gladwell makes a point about how trending rice paddies is a complicated issue that requires constant hard work.
Also set in place, are values, which are culturally defined standards that people use to decide what is desirable, good, and beautiful (John J. Macionis 2017, 2014). These serve as broad guidelines for social living. Within these norms and values we as individuals have a separate role to play. In our Mexican culture we celebrate el dia de los muertes or the day of the dead, in a lively and cheerful festival. Instead of mourning the loss of our loved ones we celebrate and have a day to remember how amazing those people were and how they lived their life. Probably one of the most important symbols to that festival and to our Mexican culture is the sugar skulls. Sugar skulls are handmade skulls made of mostly sugar. However, at first the skull is a blank canvas and anyone can decorate them to resemble their deceased loved ones.

This is very important because it can help people with dementia or learning difficulties to understand receptive and express themselves. Symbolism is when the author uses objects to add deeper meaning to the story without mentioning it in the story. In Flannery O’Connor’s story, “Good Country People”, she uses symbolism to illustrate the antagonist and protagonist with more insight; for example, Manley’s hollow Bible signify how he really does not believe in Christianity, Hulga’s wooden leg portrayed her personality, and her name change represents how she is not the same girl she once was. First of all, the author introduces Manley Pointer as a young man that goes around homes selling Bibles, but little did she know that was not the case. When Manley Pointer goes on a date with Hulga the truth is revealed. Hulga has the impression that Manley is a young nice man that sells Bibles
Norms are the specific cultural expectations for how to behave in a given situation. They are the agreed-upon expectations and rules by which the members of a culture behave. Norms vary from culture to culture, so some things that are considered norms in one culture may not be in another culture. For example, in America it is a norm to maintain direct eye contact when talking with others and it is often considered rude if you do not look at the person you are speaking with. Some example of norms includes Folkways, often referred to as "customs.
