1. Rudy Ruettiger was a young man who wanted to attend the University of Notre Dame. 2. Rudy’s main dream or goal for his future was to play football for the Fighting Irish. 3. Rudy’s closest friend Pete, dies in an explosion at his work at the steel mill. 4. Rudy uses this tragedy to pursue his goal and leaves behind his precious family, friends, girlfriend, and job. Along his journey of chasing his dreams many people discouraged him along the way. 5a. 5b. His highschool priest also put him down in the classroom by telling him he is a dreamer not a doer and Rudy is not capable of achieving good grades so he is a failure. In addition, at the bus stop for the guided tour, the highschool priest stops Rudy from getting on the bus and informs him that college is not for everyone and with the grades he has he cannot go to Notre Dame. 5c. Another person that discouraged Rudy greatly was his older brother Frank at the bar where he makes fun of Rudy for carrying out his wild dreams like a little boy. Also, when Rudy visits home from Holy Cross, he tells his father about about how great Notre Dame is and Frank harshly states, “We still have to listen to this crap you should have got smarter after that semester at Holy Cross.” 5d. His ex-girlfriend Sherry also put him down after Pete’s funeral because she could not come with him to continue his journey to Notre Dame and they both knew that she would not be waiting for him when he comes back. Moreover, when Rudy has still not had the chance to be part of the game he decides to quit but Fortune demands that Rudy goes back to practice and says, “Since when are you the quitting type?” 6d. Pete, Rudy’s best friend motivates Rudy at the start of his journey during their lunch break at the mill, Pete gives him a Notre Dame jacket for his birthday and tells him, “You were born to wear that jacket” and “having dreams is what makes life tolerable.” In another instance, at the bar, Pete stands up for Rudy and does not let Rudy get talked down by Frank. 7.
