For years, men have been the gender in control. Women are often discriminated against, treated unfairly, and told what they can or cannot do by men, and even with the presence of feminist movements, the gender inequality in the world is overbearingly visible. One of the largest issues women face today is the ability to make decisions on their body without men interfering, and abortion is an excellent example of something that men, once again, try and get behind when it doesn’t involve them as much as it does the women. Men should not have legal rights regarding abortion because one must be prepared for options when presented with pregnancy, they do not need more power in what is already a patriarchal society, and it’s time for women to have complete control over their own bodies. When couples are presented with pregnancy, they must be prepared for many options, decisions, and outcomes. Wade, 1971-1973, a woman challenged the constitutionality of Texas’ abortion laws, which at the time, stated that a woman could not receive an abortion if it didn’t directly have to do with her life. It seemed as if they did not understand that physical being is not the only thing that goes into living- it is mental state and emotional balance as well. The court ruled that denying a woman abortion was a violation of her right to privacy. A woman’s body and the events that happen in and around it should not be property of man or government.
This is not to say that a father should not have the opportunity to present his opinions regarding the abortion of his child. A father can be affected just as much as a mother when it comes to the birth or abortion of his offspring, and though women’s voices have been taken away, it’s not right to take the voices of men away in spite.
