Rhetorical Analysis of “Teaching Taco Bell Canon” “New studies show that children read for leisure less as they get older, with 45% of 17-year-olds saying that they read by choice only once or twice a year” (Time). The lack of interest for reading is unfortunately true. Moreover, it is causing students to spell and pronounce words incorrectly. In this highly descriptive article, “Teaching Taco Bell Canon”, James E. Courter recounts the hilarious misspellings that students wrote in their essays.
Transportation is one of the issues that is mentioned under the concern of the struggle that these families are facing. The journal suggests that people have to travel further to supermarkets or groceries stores to purchase items because supermarkets relocate to suburban neighborhoods in order to increase sale. Inner-city stores decrease and therefore people have to pay more for transportation and also higher cost for food and other items. In terms of transportation, one of the solutions is to offer those residents from economically distressed areas an easier way to travel to the nearest supermarket. The city can offer free shuttle services for those who exceed certain miles from a supermarket.

The style of this essay seemed to be very informal from essays I previously had read. Yet, author John DeVore gave it his personal touch. For instance, “Unless we’re talking Taco Bell. Which I will talk about, at length, even if you haven’t asked a question that has anything to do with Taco Bell.” After reading that quote I knew that in his essay he would bring forth his personality.

This new experience forced me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to find out what these new foods were and how Latinos use them. Upon entry, the only shopper in the store was I. The more time I spent looking through the aisles, the more customers began to come in. Most of those shopping were Latino. There were several Latino men who looked like they were on their lunch hour picking up items for lunch; there were also a couple of families with children that came in to do grocery shopping.

The chef starts out with one hundred percent real chicken breast, cheese of the chefs choosing, sauces, onions, and bell peppers; and any other ingredient that the chef may use for his or her type of enchilada. Enchiladas are a world classic in many areas. To start off making the greatest bunch of enchiladas, the cook must first gather the ingredients, prepare the food, and serve when ready.

A memorable and heavenly man aroma filled the air. The smell of cherry, wintergreen, apple, and butternut flavoured pipe and tobacco smoke mixed with the scent of hair tonics, pomades, oils, and neck powders. These aromas became ingrained in the wood and every cranny of the shop. The moment a man stepped inside, he was enveloped in the warm and welcoming familiarity. He was immediately able to relax, and as soon as the hot lather hit his face, his cares would simply melt away.”
