Planning can be one of the most important and critical steps in any stage of life whether its business orientated or just planning personally. “Planning is choosing a goal and developing a method or strategy to achieve that goal” (McWilliams A Williams C 2014) which is has positives and negatives. Focusing specifically on organisations and their management structures, planning has a multitude of benefits. American businessman, Paul J. Meyer believes “productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort” (Meyer P n/d). To set goals they reflect and evaluate previous structures, successes and failures to then create new goals. They have daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual plans to achieve goals. By having these goals, it positions staff to work without emotion therefore allowing everyone equal opportunity to achieve more. Vison statements and plans were made however they just weren’t used to their full extent. Only throughout the last couple of years, management have recognised the importance of aiming for a target on the horizon with a plan and achieving that goal regularly and in a shorter amount of time. Currently Ferguson Plarre are currently creating new goals and new plans regularly due to engagement and performance by staff. They are also considering long term plans such as a 5 and 10 year plans which will help give the company direction into the future. This is following the current trend of companies such as google which have long, mid and short term plans to help the organisation maintain its pole position in the technology industry. Having plans like Ferguson Plarre currently have, gives employees direct pay incentives to achieve goals such as minimising food waste. By sticking to the vision statement also, Ferguson Plarre Backhouses are also able to stick to a template and standard of which they hire staff and a set of values they go by every day.
