Every human has a different set of characteristics, which makes up their personality. Individuals admire or look down upon different unique aspects of someone's personality. Some people admire intelligence and kindness, while others admire sarcasm and wit. In The Taming of The Shrew, by William Shakespeare, Kate is the most admirable character because of her ability to stand up for herself, her determination, and her bravery. Kate is constantly put down for her attitude in the play, but throughout the constant berating she is an admirable character because she is able to stand up for herself. She is determined to let her sister, father and Petruchio know, that she is a person, and not a shrew that needs to be suppressed. Petruchio says that he must leave, but Kate boldly says she refuses to leave, but he may leave if he wishes. “Do what thou canst, I will not go today, No, nor tomorrow, not till I please myself. The door is open, sir. There lies your way. You may be jogging whiles your boots are green. For me, I’ll not be gone till I please myself” (3.2.214). Kate is determined to stand her ground and prove her power. Kate is decisive and has made her decision to stay. After Kate and Petruchio get married, Petruchio doesn’t let her sleep or eat. He claims the food isn’t good enough for her and the bed is not suitable enough. Kate doesn’t understand why he would deprive her of such necessities. Even though she is hungry and exhausted, she perseveres and goes to Gremio and asks him to get her food. “As who should say, if I should sleep or eat, 'Twere deadly sickness or else present death. I prithee, go and get me some repast, I care not what, so it be wholesome food” (4.3.14-16). She says she doesn't understand why she cannot eat or sleep, neither will cause sudden death. She begs Gremio to bring her back any type of nutritious food. Gremio says he will get her calf, or maybe beef and mustard.
