Compare and Contrast Generally speaking, when you compare Walmart to Target you find that they both have several common attributes. You can find either or both stores usually within one or two hundred miles of just about everywhere here in the US. Both stores carry the same kind of items. Everything from toiletries to food staples, from baby to automotive and camping items. When you look at each companies’ community outreach, environmental impact and appearance you see how each company differs. Walmart is most known for their blue and white/off-white colors. The color is often associated with depth and stability, and is said to promote tranquility and calmness. In China, this color is known for good luck. Red is often known as being energizing, stimulating, exciting and powerful. It is also known as being a color of courage, determination and spontaneous. Their buildings are of medium size compared to average department stores like K-mart or JC Penny. They seem smaller inside, with the ceilings lower and tiled in. The isles are narrower. The store has different outfit combinations displayed, giving customers little “pushes” towards accessories and shoes to also purchase with their clothing. The parking lots are smaller, seemingly mostly filled even on non-busy days. Target has stores based just domestically. Target partners with a variety of charities to provide man hours, money, and food to their community. Target has been a partner with United Way since 1962. Through United Way, Target donated over $14 million, and over 250,000 volunteer hours in 2014. Target has also partnered with groups such as Corporation for National and Community Service, Hands On Network, Feeding America, and Meals for Minds. They also have several grant programs such as Target Foundation Arts grants, and Target Foundation Social Services grants. They even have public safety
