As a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), I have organized events, tutored students, and provided academic guidance to junior students. NHS coordinates leaders and scholars from school and community to provide a meaningful impact on the community. Members must maintain a high GPA and prove their leadership abilities to remain in the club. Through my academic knowledge and experience, I mentored other aspiring scholars and offered guidance to resolve their curriculum challenges. I tutored students in the library, explaining mathematical concepts and assisting in answering questions on assigned reading.
She is very organized at school, and considers it a very important skill to her success. She is always on top of her work, and hates the stressful feeling she gets when she starts to fall behind a little. She is always striving to improve herself, and has improved considerably through her years in high school. Before 10th grade, I had an insufficiently rigorous course load to yield a competitive GPA. After taking the most rigorous classes for a year and boosting my GPA, I have decided to help my classmates tackle the competition at my school by helping them organize their schedules and classes for future academic years. I have reached out to these classmates through class projects and tutoring sessions. So far, I have helped about five teenagers become competitive. I have also frequently volunteered at a local food pantry.

Many posses the commitment to the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, but how one uses them shows the core of their disposition. For each of these qualities, there are many traits, useful in a leader, and not. Since it is only my second year as a student at Carlsbad High School, there has not been much time of my being distracted from my school work as I try to be as diligent of a student as possible. However, from time to time, I take a break and do things for the community instead. The National Honors Society requires and represents four important core values: Character, Leadership, Service, and Scholarship in which I believe describes myself as a person on many levels. These experiences in the New Hampton community have created and strengthened my values of hard work, academic success through education, and community participation. When looking at her school work and from the information that was previously gathered from sessions with Hailey, it was important to assess her as an oral reader, silent reader, writer, word solver, problem solver, and her comprehension. Using a variety of assessments and taking the new information and planning to help Hailey be more successful was important.
