Dear Dr. Cathleen Moore and the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, I would like to be considered for your Graduate Teaching Assistant position that was posted on 10/31/2017. I believe that I would be a great fit for this position due to my experiences as a teacher and my academic background in psychology. One reason I would be a great fit for this position is because I once held what seems to be a nearly identical position in college. At Southern Illinois University (SIU), I served as an undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Psychology under the tutelage of Dr. Meera Komarraju. In this position, I led a discussion section for a similar number of students that were mostly at the freshmen and sophomore level. I also attended weekly lectures, held office hours, and managed my own grade book. Psychology was one of my earliest career interests dating back to high school. I would eventually follow my interest and pursue a college degree in this line of study where I obtained a 4.0 in all the courses that were in my major. I also was heavily involved in PSI Chi (The International Honors Society of Psychology) where I served as our chapter’s Vice President. It was due to this passion and success that I was offered a position as an undergraduate Teaching Assistant at SIU.
