Communication
I have worked in several interdisciplinary teams, including a student-led nanosatellite (CubeSat) competition team and the atmospheric modeling research team, during my times in college. These experiences are invaluable. If I am asked to distill one message from these experiences, the message will be: communication. Communication is often the key for success in these interdisciplinary teams. Without communication between the subsystems, misunderstanding might occur and assumptions apply; this will lead to undesired outcomes. Together, they taught me the importance of constant and clear communication. Hence, I foster a good habit of conducting productive and engaging meetings (with clear meeting agenda) as well as communicating effectively via emails or in-person conversations. And, this applies to all the relevant stakeholders in the project.

As a Teaching Assistant, I am trained to breakdown difficult and complicated theories into something interesting and easy to absorb. My weekly-two-hour recitation class serves as a great platform

Social/Cultural Awareness
During my times in college, I was a residential advisor and was exposed to various social-justice related issues, which has broadened my perspective. “Once a RA (Residential Advisor), forever a RA,” once my RA colleague said. The experience — staying in a building and handling difficult and (sometimes) identity-and-emotionally-triggering situations at the hallways —is impact. It has shaped my thinking and makes me a more considerate person who is constantly learning to look at things from others’ perspectives.
