“Anybody who has ever taught knows what we mean when we say teaching can consume us and smother the glow until it dims and flickers low” (Flook, 2013). Teachers may pursue the career path for many reasons, but commonly will agree that all want to teach young minds and impact their future. A teacher begins their career with high hopes of making an impact in the world that they live in, navigating at full sail. However, there are many difficulties and demands in a teacher’s occupation that can take the wind out of their sails. Situations may arise that the bright vision an eager teacher once had of education can suddenly turn very dim, but there are many ways to overcome the challenges of teaching and keep the zest for teaching alive. “Burnout” …show more content…

If I were to attend all of the FFA sanctioned events with students that are available, I would be gone for several weeks out of the year from home and would miss several days of instructional time. Balancing all three responsibilities can create high levels of stress and can impact my self-efficacy. At times, I feel as if I am not doing enough or not being the best that I can be. This reduces my esteem as a teacher and can affect my classroom environment in return. As a third year teacher, my highest cause of stress is the expectation of completing all of the projects in an exemplary fashion, even if it is my first time around. Through my school’s evaluation system, the Marzano Model for Teacher Evaluation will assess my classroom management skills and effectiveness in many domains of teaching. With proper usage of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, I will be more aware of my feelings to reach in to my inner passion for teaching. I can also pursue activities and lessons in my classroom that are challenging, yet rewarding to provide a “carrot” for both myself and students to accomplish tasks without stress.
