The Teapot Dome is a government-owned oil field in Wyoming. Its purpose is to set aside enough fuel for the warships. It is said that the Secretary of the Interior, Albert B. Fall, used the land to enrich himself. Many said that in 1921 Fall had coerced President Harding to transfer power over two of the nation’s most important oil reserves, Elk Hills in California and Teapot Dome in Wyoming, from the Navy Department to the Department of the Interior. He later leased the oil reserves to his friends: Harry F. Sinclair of Sinclair Oil Corporation (Teapot Dome) and Edward L. Doheny of Pan American Petroleum and Transport Company (Elk Hills).
