Law enforcement officers are tasked with law and order maintenance as well as securing property and saving lives within the neighborhood (US Bureau of Labor Statistics & US Department of Labor, 2008). Due to the high responsibility expected of a law enforcement officer, it is important for one to have a clear, concise and confident plan of executing one’s mandate. The world is increasingly becoming one large community because of social media. Though there concerns over privacy, individuals have developed a tendency of sharing their information, thoughts and activities without due diligence. This has created a conduit for criminals to advance their interests. Nonetheless, social media is proving to be a crucial criminal justice tools for crime analysts, police officers and even community control or probation officers. There are other technologies which have come handy to police officers. For instance, the advancement of modern communication technologies have improved communication, data processing and information sharing capacities; hence augmenting the response capabilities of law enforcement officers and altering individuals’ calls for service. Tablets and smart phones in police cars were at one time all the rage though they present some challenges. The increased transferability of connected devices has allowed for innovative use of these communication gadgets within the police service (Byrne & Marx, 2011). From translation services which aid in communicating with non-English speakers to electronic ticketing devices, these devices now allow officers to record, access and share information irrespective of their location. With the aid of these devices, police officers can also respond to calls for service within desirable time limits.
