Technological Revolution In Education

Revolution is defined as the changeover in use or preference and the information and communications technologies revolution has probably been the most evident revolution in recent years. Technology has the ability to achieve a lot and it has breakthroughs everyday but people should concentrate on using it to solve issues in today’s society. One issue that can be solved by technology and it is currently evolving is education. Education is a big problem in our country because of the lack of qualified teachers but the revolution of technology and educational applications can solve this problem by decreasing the reliance on teachers.
Statistics show that the output of teachers is short by 15 000 per annum and approximately 7 500 teachers are currently teaching even though they are unqualified. The Eastern Cape currently has 2 333 schools with fewer than six teachers, the Eastern Cape may be seen as the epitome of the education problem but it is in fact a problem that is affecting children all around the country. Figure 1 shows a classroom with almost a hundred students, a teacher cannot be expected to effectively teach every child. Textbooks are not available to every school around the country and learning cannot happen without textbooks (refer to figure 6). figure 6
The obvious solution to this problem may be improving the training of teachers but this would have would have been done if it was so simple. The technology revolution has been drastic over the past few years
