Theodore “Ted” John Kaczynski was a brilliant mathematician, a child prodigy, and a professor at the University of California, Berkeley. However, to the world at large, Ted Kaczynski was the infamous Unabomber, known for conducting a terror campaign by mailing bombs around the country. After killing three and injured 23 during his run, he was eventually incarcerated at the supermax prison ADX Florence, where he remains today. In Mr. Kaczynski's case, the two most effective treatments would be either drug therapy or group therapy. Drug therapy would undoubtedly be an effective measure in minimizing the effect that schizophrenia has Mr. Kaczynski’s life. Drugs such as Prochlorperazine and Reserpine help alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia by acting as dopamine antagonists within the brain. Since schizophrenia is thought to arise more severely with an excess amount of dopamine within the brain, dopamine antagonists would help decrease the effect that an excess of dopamine would incur. Furthemore, medication such as these drugs are extremely effective and can be taken on a regular basis without impeding too much on day to day life. Another method to help combat the effects of schizophrenia for Ted would be group therapy. Because Ted’s form of schizophrenia was not excessively debilitating, group therapy could serve to aid him in dealing with his symptoms as well as provide a social teaching tool for him. Furthermore, group therapy could help him air the concerns and grievances that he was not able to do so previously in a productive and cathartic manner.
