The film 13th directed by Ava DuVernay targets an intended audience of the Media and the three branches of the United States government with an emphasis that mass incarceration is an extension of slavery. It is intended to inform viewers about the criminalization of African Americans and the United States prison boom. 13th uses rhetorical devices in its claim to persuade the viewers by using exemplum in the opening seconds of the film. President Barack Obama presents statistics, saying “the United States is home to 5% of the world’s population but is home to 25% of the world’s prisoners.” Also the film uses a hyperbole in talking about the movie Birth of a Nation produced in 1915 which portrays a black man as a violent savage who will kill white women.
Adolescence can be described as a period of awareness and self-definition. According to Erikson (1968), it is an important period in the enduring process of identity formation in the life of an individual. The movie ‘The Breakfast Club’, focuses on a group of five adolescents, and their pursuit to find their prospective identity. This essay will focus on the process of identity development in these five adolescents, with particular reference to the character Andrew Clark. In addition, it seeks to highlight the different identity statuses, as well as, the factors that facilitate or hinder identity formation.
Through the use of a younger cast and romantic relationships, the target audience was definitely reached and moved by this film. By effectively using the rhetorical appeals, the audience was able to relate to some of the ideas shown and look at their community through an entire new lenses. The Breakfast Club can be classified as a coming to age film. According to “As Film Studies: The Essential Introduction”, the coming of age films tend to rely on dialogue and emotion and often involves an important decision made in a short period of time (271).
In the movie, Stand By Me, by Stephen King, four boys, Gordie, Teddy, Vern and Chris, set out in search of the body of a young boy who had been missing. They had overheard where the body might have been located and went to see if they could find it. The boys endured several different obstacles whether it was a train, sleeping in dark wilderness filled with vicious animals, or older boys who were also intent on finding the body, but they continued on until they found the body. Throughout the movie there were several sociological concepts such as, growing up/coming of age, the idea the people will go to great length to achieve fame, and the idea that people perceive people that may be different then how they actually are. The movie uses all three of the sociological perspectives, but the one that stood out to me most what the symbolic interactionist perspective.
Youth culture can pertain to interests in styles, music, clothes and sports. It also pertains to behaviours, beliefs, and vocabulary; this refers to the ways that teenagers conduct their lives. The concept behind youth culture is that adolescents are a subculture with norms, morals, behaviours and values that differ from the main culture of older generations within society. For instance, young men and women, teenagers in this case, are mostly represented as unpredictable and not easy to understand. In the film, Mean Girls directed by Mark Waters (2004), adolescents are represented as bullies, who use manipulation to achieve what they want and are two-faced with the people around them; they are constantly stereotyped as a high social group like the plastics and a low social group like the mathletes; also they are presented as young people that fall under peer pressure, and are overly concerned about their appearance and about being socially accepted.

Girl, Interrupted is a film that portrays many different illnesses, but specifically the experiences of Susanna, the main character, who is a patient at a psychiatric hospital. The multipath model contains the different dimensions portrayed in the film: biological, psychological, social, and sociocultural. Susanna is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and some of the dimensions are applied to this disorder in the film. There is really no biological dimension shown in the film with any of the characters. There might be some genetic factors between Susanna and her parents with BPD, but it is not indicated so.
I do not agree with the film criticism. In my opinion I think the system is the problem. Kids have been thrown into jail due to of little things like throwing skittles to another. Also in Kentucky a third grader kid has been restrained. Over 54,000 kids are in jail in America.

The aim of this documentary is to highlight the struggle of girls in the developing world by taking real life stories of nine different girls from different parts of the developing nations and reenacting their actual incidents to highlight the aspects of their plight. The aspects include sexual abuse, poverty, child labor, child marriage, bias education system and so on. These girls suffer everyday for education, voice, freedom and human rights in their own countries of India, Haiti, Cambodia, Nepal, Afghanistan, Peru, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone. Richard.

Some of us may explore different identities and there are others that just do what others tell them to do. The movie depicted role confusion in each of the characters. It also talked about peer pressure and how it influences how we act.
