Teenagers are in the constant struggle between not being old enough, or being too old. They are expected to handle everything the way an adult would, but they are not adults. Growing up in a household where a teen can make their own decisions, but still have guidance from their parents or guardian sounds appropriate, right? Well in most cases that is not how teenagers are raised. Overprotective parents hardly ever let their teen make their own decisions, and this takes away the experience for their child to start becoming an adult under their own roof. Today there is a wide variety of how teenagers are raised, and with all the different ways to handle situations, it is hard to determine which way is fair. Growing up in a house with overprotective parents, but having a friend with permissive parents shows the way things could be. Teens reach an age where they think that they should be able to do the things that they want with their parents permission, but when you have overprotective parents you will most likely not have permission to do so. So what do they do? They rebel and lie to their parents, because their friend with the permissive parents say it 's okay, so now the teen feels like they should be able to go anyways. The teen continues to rebel until the overprotective parents find out what they are doing. Now they know what their child has been doing, and they cannot believe their child was dishonest with them. This causes the parent and the teens relationship to struggle because they will have a hard time regaining the lost trust. Teens who never get to make their own decisions will most likely make bad decisions when they finally get to decide for themselves. This is not me
