Many individuals wish they could do this. They wish they could input their opinion, but can not because of their age. Their age tells them that they can or can not do something. Many think that their maturity levels are to low in order to do this. Many teens wish that they could vote with their opinions, but can not because they have been told, by someone with a higher status, as either immature or too young. If the voting age is lowered it can benefit many people with many things. It can prove to help teens in many ways from what they learn in their education to them learning to speak up for what they think is right. Of course, they have their reasons. Not all, but some adults think that teens should not vote because of maturity levels. Still, if a teen votes they are proving those people wrong in either one way or another. Fairvote says that a majority of teens vote because of their beliefs and values and not what other people tell them to do. Plus, if teens are not mature enough then they should not be allowed to drive vehicles, get tried as adults in a court, or even have to work jobs because that individual comes from a less fortunate family. Therefore they have to work in order to afford things that other individuals would get handed. Science today also proves that teens are not immature voters as they are made out to be. According to the New York Times, psychologists say teens already have what is called the “cold” cognition at the age of 16. “Cold” cognition is when a decision is made with a critical analysis and also with logic. Just like if an individual had to pick between two things that they love. They may look at the pros and cons of each item and make a decision from there. Unlike “cold” cognition, there is also “hot” cognition. “Hot” cognition deals with the emotions in a situation and goes off from how someone will react in the moment, and teens also have that cognition. If someone is upset and concerned about something they may make a decision off from how they feel instead of what may be more important. The difference between “hot” and “cold” cognition is how an individual may react because of their emotions or their logic. So, teens have proof that they are mature enough to be able to vote.
