A courtroom setting, Monster by Walter Dean Myers, shows main character, 16 year old Steve Harmon’s experience when he is on trial for the murder of a shop owner. The book is written as a movie that Steve is drafting, and there are notes between sections so we can see Steve’s thoughts and what happens behind the scenes. Steve, and James King are the defendants on trial with their defence attorneys, Kathy O’Brien and Asa Briggs, who are against Sandra Petrocelli, the prosecutor. Through the trial, Steve shows his hardships and experiences. Steve’s beliefs, referenced settings, and actions in the book reveal the theme “one must stay true to themselves to achieve their goals”.
Nevertheless, the defendant could not identify what movies he saw nor the actors and/or actresses that starred in the films. Juror Eight questioned Juror Four, the person who was critical towards the defendant’s alibi, whether he was “‘able to remember details after an upsetting experience such as being struck in the face by your father?’” (Rose 56). After Juror Four claimed that he could recall specific aspects while under intensive stress, Juror Eight questioned Juror Four about his daily life before today, which consisted of going to the movies. Juror Four appeared to struggle to name the movies and the individuals that starred in the films without any emotional stress.

Next I will talk about, Harlan Jr. (Hiram’s father) and Harlan’s father Harlan. Harlan was a complicated man and seemed to have a cold heart inside. Harlan’s son Harlan Jr. Was the same way when he got older and their father and son relationship split apart. Harlan was the grandfather to Hiram and the father to Harlan Jr. Harlan Jr. Was the father to Hiram and the son to Harlan. What would you do if you had to testify at trial for something that didn't happen between you,how do you take it?
Juror #2 finds it “interesting that he’d find a knife exactly like the one the boy bought”(24). Afterwards, the 8th Juror suggests that the old man, one of the witnesses, lied because of the point Juror #3 tried to make. Juror #3 says, that the old man “[ran ] to his door and [saw ] the kid tearing down the stairs fifteen seconds after the killing”(42). Juror #8 then suggests that the old man could not have done that because of his stroke.
Steve’s judgment of his actions is similar to a pendulum swinging. Although Steve believes within himself that he is innocent, of the important people around him, make him insecure as to the degree of his innocence and turn to others for confirmation. Steve Harmon, the defendant, is faced with an internal conflict that questions his self-identity and his character in relation to the crime.
"Don 't judge a book by its cover" is a famous saying that some of us heard it before and some of us experienced it. 12 jurors were experiencing this quote when they gathered to decide whether a young boy is guilty by killing his father or not. Juror 2 stated, "Well, anyway, I think he was guilty" (6). Juror 2 represent most of us, as sometimes we judge from what we hear and not from what we see. The 12 jurors are from various backgrounds and each one has a distinctive personality.
Based on the evidence gathered from the case everyone agrees the boy is innocent except one man, juror three. He eventually breaks down and consequently tells the truth. The viewers can tell that this movie/play is full of emotions. Each of these emotions can be described as something more than what comes to the eye.

The script introduces the viewers to the typical behavior and the state of mind of these jurors, who surprisingly turn out to be the last to change their opinions from “guilty” to “not guilty”. ‘Twelve Angry Men’ written by Reginald Rose, is based on the story of a jury who have to come together to determine the fate of a young boy accused to have murdered his own father. Initially, eleven of the jurors vote not guilty with one of the juror being uncertain of the evidence put before them. As the men argue over the different pieces of evidence, the insanity begins to make sense and the decision becomes clearer as they vote several other times. Rose creates drama and tension in the jury room, clearly exploring through the many issues of prejudice, integrity and compassion, in gaining true justice towards the accused victim. These aspects have been revealed through three character who are Juror 10, Juror 8 and Juror 3.
Suddenly, the DMV examiner stepped in the car and I was on my way. In the beginning, I constantly checked my speed and made sure I stopped when instructed. As I began to take a few turns, all I could hear was the pen scratching against the examiner 's clipboard and I couldn’t help but feel ancy. Soon after driving around the area, he told me to pull back into the area where we first started. I had a huge sigh of relief thinking that the test was over, but it only took me seconds to realize I was very wrong.
