Twelve hours of agonizing pain, tears and smiles, and Tracy, a mother of two has her third child. This little boy, just like the others, brings an overwhelming feeling of bliss and love. As every parent knows this joy is soon to be followed by crying, sleeping, and pooping. John Locke described this lack of cognitivity as to be born with a blank slate and to only learn by experience. Little did Locke know, infants have a rich understanding of the world. Infants like any other human are born with a set of DNA. Children are born with genetics that determine physical and behavioral traits that are developed through growth and experiences. Everyone experiences life changing events, those events are what brings people to show their true colors. In the book Frankenstein, ”young Victor finds an old book on Alchemy, which leads to his devotion in re-animation” (Mary Shelley). Even the smallest childhood experiences develop a person's temperament. In Victor’s case his love for science and the dead was revealed from a simple family trip. Events as such not only help reveal one’s predetermined temperament but also change people’s views and desires. Social media is one of the few constant experiences that changes a person’s view. Due to social media and the new ideal woman image, “ 7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way including their looks, performance in school and relationships” (Statistics on Body Image). Everyday millions of teenagers use social media as an outlet for boredom. Little do these adolescents realize is that this everyday experience is developing their temperament and views on the world and themselves.
