Over the course of history many laws, guidelines and tradition have been established and passed down from generation to generation. Some of these laws being similar to one another but also still very different in their own way. Two of these set of laws that have been established are the Ten Commandments and the ancient law code of Hammurabi. Both a set of rules for their people to follow that are similar but different. It was used by the king of Babylonian during his time from 1792 to 1750 B.C. These laws were written on to a finger shaped stone. Hammurabi’s laws were put in place and only needed to be followed by the lower class of Babylonian. Unlike the Ten Commandments Hammurabi’s law focused on more than just civil law it focused on criminal also. The upper class if the laws were not followed did not get the same harsh punishments as lower class they were hit with a fine. They believed in the eye for eye saying meaning. If you busted someone’s lip then the same would have to happen to you. Unless you are part of the upper class and you did it to a lower class. Hammurabi’s law unlike the Ten Commandments consisted of over two hundred laws and punishments. Many say that Hammurabi’s law was ahead of its time because it contained items like divorce and minimum wage. Both the Ten Commandments and the ancient law code of Hammurabi’s were established to help and try to guide the people to doing the right thing.
