Ten key issues facing juvenile justice are youths that there needs to be a good juvenile justice Administrator or Community to handle to handle and keep up with all the juvenile in the system. Have mental health issues and substance abuse issues. The screening processes for juveniles. Some juveniles are left to take care of themselves once they have been sent to different group homes, detention, or rehabilitation centers. In my opinion Solitary Confinement is inhumane and I feel it is unnecessary. Juveniles they have many serious, interrelated problems, including drug use, educational deficits, emotional issues, abuse, and neglect (Dembo et al., 1998a). Confinement just make the situation worse. Communities need to start back policing their own neighbors. With the help of people in the community there would be less crimes, less robberies, less gun violence, and less murders. There has been an increase in youth crime and its effects, as well as a growing awareness of the magnitude of these and related problems among various high-risk groups (Butts and Harrell, 1998). Reduce violence in the jails and prisons. By reducing violence in detention or rehabilitation centers this will give the offenders less time in solitary confinement, more time getting more educated and learning some type of trade. Get more school, churches, and organizational involved before the youth that are commenting crime get to far out of hand. Another important issue is addressing the racial disparities.
