The most notorious was Joseph Stalin. He and Napoleon from the book animal farm are very alike in many ways. Stalin was very infamous for starting communism.
“Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The quote from Shakespeare’s “Tragedy of Julius Caesar,” although short, it says a lot about the manipulation of power and how it can change the morals and the sense of humanity in a single person. The person 's morality lessens as long as their power increases. All power should not be given to one single man, if it is than that man will feel as though he is god and can manipulate everyone to do their bidding.
When somebody receives incredible power, they also receive a large burden of responsibility. Some people, such as Napoleon, disregard these responsibilities and become corrupt. In reality, we have seen this in leaders such as Stalin, who became corrupt once into power. In “Animal Farm”, Napoleon, a totalitarian pig, is a great example of how too much power is equal to corruption.

The statement “power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely” means, power can lead to many things but the one thing comes back again and again is it will always corrupt, unless you're jesus. when Individuals get power concentrated in the hands of one person they ted to become worse off than if they split the power up.

For instance, Muammar Gaddafi who came in power in Libya during the 1960s. For many years, Gaddafi took advantage on his power, which lead to the downfall of Libya during his years of leadership. He was a corrupt leader because he was abusing the basic human rights and the rights of a ruler and he is the man that will not let things stand his way of getting something.
Power can have many effects on how we think and act, it can save and corrupt. The competence can surge through your mind and lead you to do great things, but it can also make you go back on your word and abuse the control you have. It can dominate your mind so that you cannot think of anything else but the sovereignty you have and the ascendancy you possess. Once you get a taste of power it poisons your whole body and there is no antidote to the horrific poison.
Throughout the George Orwell’s novella Animal Farm, the theme of power affects society develops consistently throughout the ten chapters of the book. Since the beginning of Old Major’s teachings, pigs have been the top of the social hierarchy due to their intelligence. Due to the amount of power intelligence gave the pigs, they were able to control and manipulate the animals into working and fighting. The animals were very simpleminded, leading to thinking the pigs are always true. In addition, the pigs exploited power tremendously by being the only ones to resolve or come up with any ideas; the other animals, however, could “never think of any resolutions of their own”(Orwell 31).
All too often, power leads to corruption. Multiple of the characters in the novel Animal Farm written by Geroge Orwell demonstrate that those who have power tend to abuse it to take advantage of the weak. Napoleon, Squealer, and Snowball, the pigs that leaded the rebellion, end up exploiting their power, leading to disharmony, cruelty, and dishonesty for the animals on the farm of whom they are taking advantage and who cannot do anything about it because the pigs are their superiors. Ultimately, the novel reveals that power corrupts those who are in control. Napoleon “educates” puppies, but while doing so “he took them up into a loft which could only be reached by a ladder from the harness-room and there kept them in such seclusion that
“Animal Farm” by George Orwell, is a story to show how absolute power corrupts, just as Stalin’s power did during the Russian Revolution in 1917. In the allegory “Animal Farm” each character represents a political figure from the days around the Russian Revolution. For example, Joseph Stalin is represented by a pig named Napoleon, Squealer, another pig, represents Stalin’s propaganda department, and the dogs represent the Secret Police (KBG). Using the nine dogs that Napoleon raises (intimidation), Squealer (propaganda), and manipulation, Orwell illustrates how Napoleon was able to gain and maintain control of the farm. The nine dogs that stay by Napoleon at all times are useful for Napoleon to gain and maintain control of the farm because they scare the other animals, intimidating them so that they do not disobey Napoleon.

According to Orwell, the book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalin era in the Soviet Union. In the book, Mr. Jones, the owner of the Manor farm is so lazy and drunken that one day he forgets to feed his livestock.
Back in history, many leaders are overthrown and killed because corruption of power. Due to the fact, power was not distributed properly to the people they often feel uncomfortable and leads to rebellion. Yet, power corruptions are common these days, it is proven that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely by history and in modern days. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, Lord Acton’s statement, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” applies to much of the rulers in Animal Farm that show dictatorship and violence.

This quote can be applied to Napoleon from the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, because at the beginning of the novel Old Major’s words inspired Napoleon. As a result, he believed that humans were evil for forcing animals to work for them and that animals should be able to live freely, not under anyone’s control; however, as the story progresses his belief changed and the animals did not get to live their utopian dream. At the start Napoleon and the other pigs strongly believed that all animals were equal and had the right to live in a place that took care of their well being.
Power can be a wonderful thing, which leads to success. On the other hand, misusing it can lead to corruption, depending on who is handling it. George Orwell in his book Animal Farm uses animals to show that humans abuse their power. The most significant topic in the novel is the abuse of power that keeps happening again and again. When unconstructive human qualities take over what is really important and overcome one's ability to govern competently, power is corrupted.

The pigs immediately gain control and leadership of the farm and eventually start to abuse the power. The pigs abuse their power by changing the commandments, living in luxury, and by treating the animals poorly. First and foremost, the pigs start changing the commandments to fit their acts and desires. In the beginning of the story, the animals decide on fair rules that everyone on the farm should abide by.
