As Ray Owens said, “Betty Shelby very likely viewed Terence Crutcher as a ‘bad dude’ Is she a racist?
The shooting footage of Keith Lamont Scoot forms part of an outgoing debate on race and abuse of power. Recently, the shooting of black people in the U.S by the police is causing a lot of protests. But, what are the reasons that are leading to this crisis? Is it because of race? In everyday news, you hear of white men shooting and murdering people with a darker skin color. For example, the Laquan McDonald case proves racism and lynchings are still present in today’s society. Teenage Laquan McDonald was walking away when suddenly Officer Jason Van Dyke (a white man) started firing multiple shots at him. Laquan McDonald had no reason to be
For example, in December of 2014, twelve-years-old Tamir Rice (Black skinned) was playing with a toy gun in his neighborhood when a police patrol car came and shot the kid without reasoning with him first. This was a very shocking case, as seen in video surveillance the cop shot the kid within seconds of pulling up on him. This shows the fear that was inside of the cop took over, and he acted on instinct and killed the boy. A statistic was posted on May of 2017 by German Lopez (a writer for Vox) which shows the ratio of races who have been killed by the police per million people, and Blacks and Native Americans are shown to hold the highest death ratios by double the amount of other races. The statistic shows that Black people are heavily discriminated on as the police are shown from time and time to be heavily prejudiced against black people, as they abuse their authority and feel they can get away with acting more aggressive towards them.
Forty-nine out of the fifty-three of the officers in the Ferguson Police Department are white. Before Michael Brown, there was Henry Davis. In 2009, Davis was charged with destruction of property for bleeding on the uniforms of white police officers. Police say that Davis was swerving all over the road at a very high speed and refused to take a breathalyzer test when he got pulled over.
The heavily armed sniper who gunned down police officers in downtown Dallas, leaving five of them dead, specifically set out to kill as many white officers as he could, officials said Friday. He was a military veteran who had served in Afghanistan, and he kept an arsenal in his home that included bomb-making materials. Sadly, these examples are just a few. Officer Jason Stockley’s actions remind us that we continue to live in a world of white privilege where hate crimes exist and juries acquit. From eyewitness reports, Stockley declared he would kill Anthony Smith and he did that by firing five rounds into Smith’s vehicle. Despite intent to kill, Stockley was acquitted.
Many officers use racial profiling to an excessive degree and use it as their defense for killing a defenseless African American. According to mic.com, white officers kill black suspects twice a week in the United States. It is the unfortunate truth that black people are more likely to be killed by the police than any other race. In order to properly train law enforcements, they must be taught to not discriminate against someone because of their skin color. Killing someone based off their race is a terrible way of
A poor innocent African-American boy was shot to death, because his image brought him up to look like a robber, according to a white cop. The white cop did what anyone apparently is expected to do, and shoot what was somehow “threatening” him. Is the cop in jail? No, they let him go because it was meant to be an act of “self defence”. The fact that he murdered an innocent boy for completely no good reason, has been totally ignored. "
Young black men who are shot by the police are very commonly justified, such as Michael Brown who was shot by police because he went for a cops gun inside a cops car. Slyville Smith was killed because he had a record of various arrests, and refused to put his illegally obtained pistol down when an officer asked him to. Where are the overzealous white cops who are out to take young black men into prisons for no reason? Where are the cops who kill solely because they're racist? Some may argue that cops who are pulling people over for “small” crimes like a broken tail light or slightly overspeeding is what causes more police brutality, but if a cop pulls a person over for a broken tail light, and they gets out of the car with a weapon, is the cop really racist in that scenario?

Are Police Racist On April 29, 2017 Jordan Edwards, unarmed, was leaving a house party that was getting “out of hand”. He was fatally shot and killed while in the car leaving with his brother and three other unarmed teenagers. Jordan was considered a great student and he was liked by many of his teachers and classmates. This is just one of the many times police officers have fatally shot someone that was unarmed and just happened to be black.
