I (not very long ago) read a piece by Edward Church, his novel Desert Solitaire. Church worked as a ranger for the United States National Park Service at the Arches National Monument. While working and living in southern Utah, Church brings across his disgust with industrial tourism as a poor attempt to understand nature and as an
(47) In order to assess the pleasure visitors receive from visiting the Grand Canyon, Percy creates a model that quantifies the pleasure level of Lopez de Cardenas as a measurable mathematical value P. In the process of evaluating the P value, he compares P with benefits that diabetes patients receive with “Banting’s discovery of insulin.” (46) Unlike the welfare the insulin brought about, Percy’s P, due to “counterinfluence” (46), has inverse relationship with the number of tourists. With the quantification of P, Percy offers his readers a concrete proof, showing the surplus of pleasure from the explorer’s discovery over that of the tourist’s recreational
Texas has seen many changes since the first constitution of Coahuila y Tejas was drafted in 1827. During this time Texas was still a part of Mexico, as it sought it's independence from Spain in 1821. The Social Peculiarities of Texas Political Culture. Texas is one of the fastest-growing states. Nowadays it became more culturally diverse than ever. As a result, the increasing diversity has a significant impact on the political culture. Currently the Native-American population is less than one-half of percent in Texas, while during the nineteen century there were at least twenty-three groups of Native-Americans.
Political culture establishes the backdrop against which politics unfold, it establishes the outer limits of what is possible, or even probable in the political realm. Texas political culture can be described as traditionalistic and individualistic. Texas traditionalist political culture believes in the values that policies are designed to preserve social order in the state, politicians come from society’s elite, and politicians have a family obligation to govern. While on the other hand, individualistic political culture believes that government should be limited when it comes to the lives of the public, individual rights of the citizens should be the main focus of a government rule, and a stronger support of personal politics rather than elitism. Texas also has a strong populism influence.

Medical Experiments and the Nuremberg Trials Imagine a normal day in a concentration camp, being starved and worked to death and being tortured on a daily basis. This was only a small portion of the torture the Jews went through during their life in the Holocaust. A major part of it was the medical experiments and the Euthanasia murders. Sadly, the Nazis would kill German Jews and many other races to please Hitler.
Texas’s geography is diverse throughout its regions. Texas has 4 regions, the mountain and basin, the Coastal plains, the North Central plains, and the Great plains. Each region is a different type of geography unique to its own. These regions also have their own big cities that have their own characteristics. Every city has its own focus on what they want to make in that city.
Texas is known to have very hot summers and bipolar weather, where it is 100 degree at noon and then 40 degree at 4p.m all in one day, this is truly not surprising to see 35-45 degree swings in temperatures during parts of the year. There also are life-threatening weather, like deadly tornados and hurricanes, which many individuals have lost their lives to. Everybody needs a car, this state has little public transportation even in the larger cities like Dallas and Houston. Reminder that Texas is a very big and spacious state and it can sometime take more the hour to get to your location in one single city.
When I was 14 I had to move to San Clemente, California. I had already recently moved temporarily to Texas while a house was made ready for us on the military base. “The house is ready!” my mother had said excitedly, after being on the phone for a few minutes. “It’s time to go back?”
The purpose of this paper was the fact that Jamaica Kincaid felt as though tourism in the land are only seeing the greater good of the land that they were visiting. Tourists are not seeing the side where the native families are struggling to get by. Are they trying to persuade the reader to adopt a new belief or habit, or to stop doing something? Jamaica Kincaid is trying to persuade the readers of her essay to understand why tourism is such a bad thing.
