Naomi Baron, a linguistics professor at American University, believes that texting is harming students writing. She states, “So much of American society has become sloppy and laissez faire about the mechanics of writing” (131). The author used this quote to drawl in the teachers who believe texting is harming students writing. Cullington goal is to make them continue reading and learn how she believes texting is actually beneficial. By putting the opposing view point of texting affecting writing in the beginning, is confusing to the target audience.

Books, in my opinion, are almost always better than the movie and that stays true for this novel also, the novel has a much greater opportunity to give more details
Today, texting has become the most widely used communication technique for teenagers and young adults. It is written in completely informal language and it has no literature value in it. Although the critics believe texting is destroying literature value, McWhorter has another opinion in mind. McWhorter thinks that texting is another form of language that is developed by teenagers. Mr. Francis explained to me that since there was no technology or cell phones, people actually communicated with each other and had real conversations. Postman believes that new technology such as text messaging is a blessing and a burden, meaning that there are many advantages as well as disadvantages. In other words, new technology such as messaging on cellular devices has replaced writing letters to people as a way to communicate.
Too much screen use induces less communication between people and more time spent using technology. Technology used in our society in the same way. CHAPTER FIVE DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS The findings from the literature review indicate that there have a growing and significant influence of the new media, WhatsApp in this on languages in general, and Igbo Language in particular. This development coupled with the clash of culture which necessitated the dominance of emergent culture has stifled the development of Igbo Language in contemporary time. The extant literature also shows that something urgent need to be done in the social media to stem the growing tide of the destruction of Igbo Language. This section will analyse the research question close to view the reaction of the respondents to the question posed to them on this matter.
Everyone has a phone in their hands and are constantly texting in a specific manner. These people including myself are using slang such as LOL for laugh out loud or BRB for be right back. Texting language utilizes acronyms and abbreviations at their advantage to speed up conversations in obtaining ideas or information. Thus, the quicker the conversations, the simpler they can be resulting in a lack of understanding knowledge or information gained. Recent findings have suggested that schoolchildren in the 1960s and 1970s are more literate than children of today as they didn’t have the same access to technology and spelling correction tools like children today do.
The world we live in today is predominately changing with the advancement of digital communication in the daily aspects of our life. The rapid growth and evolution of digital communication, has resulted in it now becoming the backbone of the way we interact with other people. Beginning from simple 160-character SMS messages to text’s influence on the internet including Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and Instagram and then introduced on our mobile phones with BBM and whatsapp; digital communication has become a part of our spoken discourse. Digital communication in every aspect has impacted our lives as it helps jobs and businesses communicate a lot faster through e-mail, multimedia and texting.
